Systems Group

The Systems Group manages the production high-performance computing resources at NCSA, providing 24x7x365 support. This includes:

• Installing and maintaining hardware
• Installing and maintaining the operating system, including upgrades and security patches
• Debugging parallel filesystem issues (in collaboration with the Storage team)
• Debugging OS performance issues
• Debugging job and queue performance both to keep track of trends and to answer users' questions about job start delays
• Installing system-level software, including standard compilers and tools such as debuggers, editors, and utilities requested by users
• Installing, maintaining, tuning and upgrading the resource manager and the job/resource scheduler
• Responding to security incidents and maintaining the systems to NCSA security standards

The Systems Group is also involved in planning future resources and services, such as how clusters operate and research of cluster management tools and software.
