Always in close proximity to NCSA's hardware, the Technology Management Group operates from a control center in the National Petascale Computing Facility. TMG provides a variety of integrated services for NCSA, the XSEDE project, and the Campus Cluster Project:
Operations Center
TMG provides 24-7 computer operations support at NPCF. Staff members monitor and troubleshoot high-performance computing systems, mass storage, networks, and the building infrastructure. TMG staff develop and maintain a number of monitoring tools used in the Operations Center and elsewhere.
Helpdesk / Call Center
TMG provides first-tier response, assessment and resolution on a 24-7 basis, via email or telephone. Helpdesk clients include NCSA staff and the HPC user community, users of the Illinois Campus Cluster, and users from the far-reaching XSEDE project. TMG creates more than 10,000 trouble tickets each year and is able to resolve nearly 25 percent of them (the remaining tickets are assigned to other groups for resolution).
Accounts and Allocations
In addition to providing front-line troubleshooting and resolution of account and allocation issues, TMG staff also assist with account creation.
Mass Storage
Along with 24-7 monitoring, TMG provides front-line troubleshooting and resolution for NCSA's mass storage system. TMG also provides the day-to-day management of the tape subsystem and offsite storage vault.
