Visiting Research Programmers
Cybersecurity Directorate
Overview:
The National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has several Visiting Research Programmer positions available. The incumbents will design, develop, and support secure systems for NCSA's user communities and for projects with which NCSA is collaborating. Secure systems include a range of potential cyberinfrastructure projects either focused on security or having unique security requirements. The Visiting Research Programmer(s) will also be responsible for developing new solutions, their integration into existing systems and software, for deploying and operating the developed solutions, and for providing documentation and support to users.
Required Education and Experience:
- BA/BS in computer science or related degree field required. Alternative degree fields will be considered/accepted if accompanied by equivalent experience (depending on nature and depth of experience as it relates to current NCSA technologies).
- Proficient programming skills in at least one major programming/scripting language (e.g. C, Java, Python).
- Experience with software engineering tools (e.g. Bugzilla, CVS, SVN).
Preferred Experience:
- Four or more years work experience in the area of software development.
- Experience with the following: working with multiple programming or scripting languages, developing GUIs (either native or Web-based), working with NSF, software engineering experience (including software development, release management, documentation writing, testing and user support), software debugging tools (e.g.GDB), Web-based/Internet applications, Windows, Linux, and MacOS operating systems, developing graphic user interfaces, working with law enforcement, computer investigations or digital forensics, cybersecurity standards and technologies (particularly authentication and identity management in Web and other settings.
This is a visiting academic professional position (covered by a collective bargaining agreement) at NCSA and is a renewable 12/12, 100%-time appointment with regular University benefits (may become permanent at a later date). Salary is commensurate with experience and start date will be as soon as possible after the close date of the search. Interviews may be conducted before the closing date, although no hiring decisions will be made until after the search has closed.
