Advanced Digital Services Directorate
Overview
The National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has one Assistant Director position available in our newly created Advanced Digital Services (ADS) Directorate. This position is the primary leadership position for the planning and day-to-day management of NCSA's ADS directorate and its service units/functions. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating a cohesive service organization for the effective operation of the center's high performance computing infrastructure and services and managing personnel in support of a diverse portfolio of scientific and engineering projects. Required Education, Training and Experience
- BA/BS degree (advance degree preferred) in a physical science, engineering, computer science, or a related field required. Alternative degree fields will be considered/accepted if accompanied by equivalent experience (depending on nature and depth of experience as it relates to current NCSA advanced technologies).
- At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in technical (scientific or engineering) management including experience with high performance or large scale scientific or engineering computing operations and end-user support.
- Familiarity with extreme-scale computing, high performance computing, national cyberinfrastructure, and data intensive computing resources.
- Proven ability to manage both staff and budgets.
- Proven ability to develop and lead a service organization.
- Excellent communication, both written and verbal, with demonstrated interpersonal skills.
- Experience in developing and executing long-range and short-range work/budget plans and schedules.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical and management challenges, both technical and personnel related.

- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to use facts and insights to make decisions and build consensus.
- Oral and written communication skills to present both technical and non-technical information clearly and concisely to persons of varying levels of technological expertise.
- Ability to manage a diverse group of academic research and technical and administrative professionals.

This is a regular academic professional position at NCSA and is an annually renewable, 12/12, 100%-time appointment with regular University benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and start date will be as soon as possible after the close date of the search.
