Senior Network Engineer
Advanced Digital Services Directorate/Network Engineering
Overview
The National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has one Senior Network Engineer position available in our newly established Advanced Digital Services Directorate. This position is a leader and working member of the team responsible for the design, maintenance, and operation of NCSA's high-performance research network in support of NCSA staff, HPC resources, researchers, educational and private sector partners, and NSF-funded projects awarded to NCSA.
The incumbent will be a skilled networking generalist who will be expected to be an active member of the network engineering group and who will also have additional responsibilities of group management from an administrative and operational perspective. This leadership position is the primary point of contact for other groups and management to engage with the network engineering team. The position is responsible for setting team goals, interpreting policy, managing budgets and personnel, working with HR and reporting on all aspects of the team's work scope. Collaboration within the group and with many NCSA units is key in determining the focus of network operations.
Required Education, Experience & Training
- BA/BS degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field required (advanced degrees preferred). Alternative degree fields will be considered/accepted if accompanied by equivalent experience (depending on nature and depth of experience as it relates to current NCSA advanced technologies).
- Six or more years relevant experience configuring and operating switched Ethernet and routed IP networks
- Project and personnel management
- Working knowledge of HPC systems and design
- In depth understanding of IP networking
- Expertise in the operation, configuration and troubleshooting of network equipment
- Familiarity with server administration, both hardware and software, on various platforms
This is a regular academic professional position at NCSA and is a 12/12, 100%-time appointment (renewed annually) with regular University benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and start date will be as soon as possible after the close date of the search.
