Overview
The National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has one Senior Applications Architect position available in our CyberApplications and Communities Directorate. This position is responsible for the design, engineering, and integration strategies that govern the full life-cycle of development to deployment of applications and services that leverage a supportive, sustainable, and scalable enterprise infrastructure for NCSA software projects and collaborations. The primary focus for this role is the design and implementation of the software infrastructure to create a dynamically scalable service platform that embraces cloud computing and HPC cluster concepts and technologies.
Required Education and Experience
- BS/BA in computer science, engineering, library science or related field required. Alternative degree fields will be considered/accepted if accompanied by equivalent experience (depending on nature and depth of experience as it relates to current NCSA advanced technologies)
- Experience in software development and software project life-cycle management
- Experience implementing software development logistics, procedures and practices
- Extensive experience in the architectural design and construction of complex software systems
- Experience designing and developing software systems supporting HPC needs
- Experience designing and developing enterprise class systems employing GWT, Axis2, XHTML and other J2EE technologies
- Significant hands-on experience with a variety of programming languages including Java, Scala, Perl, Lisp and/or C/C++/Objective-C
- Extensive software engineering experience developing for platforms ranging form J2EE to mobile devices
- Experience in an academic research setting as well as in a commercial setting is preferred
- Experience designing and developing for iPhone and Android preferred, focusing on integration with enterprise systems
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent oral and written skills
This is a regular academic professional position at NCSA and is a 12/12, 100%-time appointment (renewed annually) with regular University benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and start date will be as soon as possible after the close date of the search.
