System Engineer
Advanced Digital Services/HPC Systems Group
Overview
The National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has one System Engineer position available in our ADS Directorate, under our HEC Division and our HPC Systems Group. This position will evaluate, install, upgrade, maintain, support, and service hardware and software for NCSA high-performance computational resources. This position will enhance the quality and optimal use of the computing environment and the seamless integration of various systems and services. The position must be able to work with a diverse population and environment with constantly changing needs and priorities and maintain NCSA's HPC resources including those that are part of the Campus Cluster effort and the State of Illinois ISLE project.
Required Education and Experience
- BA/BS degree in engineering, computer science, or related field. Alternative degree fields will be considered if accompanied by equivalent experience (depending on nature and depth of experience as it relates to current NCSA projects and technologies)
- Training and experience in the management and support of technologies such as UNIX and Linux system administration
- Programming experience in one or more of the following languages/systems: C, C++, Fortran, Java, perl, and shell programming
Preferred Experience
- Developing and presenting technical training material and web-based documentation
- Two years relevant experience
- Experience with networked environments and a wide variety of software and hardware
- Experience with high-performance computing environments
- Experience with the use of accelerators, such as GPUs, in high-performance computing environments
- Experience configuring and tuning workload management software such as Torque and Moab
- Experience managing network based license management software such as FlexLM
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios or Ganglia
This is a regular academic professional position at NCSA and is an annually renewable, 12/12, 100%-time appointment with regular University benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and start date will be as soon as possible after the close date of the search.
