Database Programmer

Data Insights Group

Overview:

Working closely under the direction of the lead Database Architect, the Database Programmer will work with others in the Data Insights group to provide very high-performance database capabilities for scientific user communities. The programmer will work on a variety of science projects crossing multiple disciplines, such as Engineering, Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Agriculture, Social Science, etc. The programmer is responsible for developing efficient database applications which usually involve complex and intensive computations. The programmer is responsible for managing very large scientific databases which require high availability, high scalability and high reliability. In addition, the programmer is also responsible for supporting scientific database users who may or may not have computer science knowledge.

Some Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Work with high-end scientific user communities to model their data and design their databases for their specific domains.
  • Design and develop efficient database applications to allow scientific users to retrieve, manipulate and perform data analysis on their database data.
  • Utilize advanced technologies to maximize the performance of the scientific database and database applications.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Software development experience, Oracle database applications is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of C, Java, and SQL, Oracle PL/SQL desired.
  • Database administration experience, Oracle's databases and Real Application Clusters preferred.
  • Database development tools experience including Web-service interface tools desired.
  • Experience working with scientific user communities is desired.

Hourly rate commensurate with experience.
