Web Portal Developer (still available for Spring 2009)

Computational Medicine Group

Overview:

The Computational Medicine Group of the National Center for Supercomputer Applications is seeking a Graduate Research Assistant to design, implement, and test modules for the Center for Clinical and Translational Science Cyberenvironment (Web Portal Developer). The work will focus on extending and implementing functionalities in already existing Open Source environments.

Key responsibilities include writing, editing, and debugging java code developed for Liferay based Web Portals, and SQL queries. This position will work closely with user interface designers and other team members.

Required Qualifications:

  • Good knowledge of Java programming language.
  • Working knowledge of Ant and SQL.
  • Previous software development experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Liferay or equivalent framework.
  • Experience with Portlets and the Java Portlet specification.
  • General Web programming experience.
  • Knowledge of database development tools.
  • Familiarity with CVS.

Waiver-generating assistantship appointments are defined as appointments ranging from 25 percent through 67 percent time (based on a forty-hour week) for three-quarters of the term, defined as the period starting on the first day of classes and ending on the last day of final examinations. Three quarters of the term is defined for spring and fall as 91 days and as 41 days for the summer term.

Deadline for possible tuition waiver for Fall 2009 is September 18. A hire for a salaried position, without the waiver, will still be made after this date.
