Blue Waters Project Office/Applications
Overview:
The National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has one Post-Doctoral Research Associate position available. The Blue Waters project provides high-performance computational and storage facilities, as well as intellectual resources that enable computational science of scale. It will be a world-leading platform for accelerating open scientific discovery through computation by some of the world's most advanced teams dealing with unique, unprecedented computational science problems. This position will provide general and specialized technical expertise and support to the Applications group, a division of the Blue Waters project. More specifically, this position will provide experienced support on NCSA's Blue Waters sustained petascale platform for the development of computational libraries, benchmarks, and applications for Lattice Quantum Chromodynamics (LQCD). Additionally, this position will port, tune, and contribute to the MILC and USQCD/SciDAC software suites, become proficient with performance tools and system simulators and use them to identify and resolve single-core and parallel performance issues and participate in LQCD meetings, conferences, and workshops.
Required Education, Training and Experience:
- Ph.D in physics, computer science or a related field required. Alternative degree fields will be considered if accompanied by equivalent experience (depending on nature and depth of experience as it relates to current NCSA projects and technologies)
- Minimum of 2 years experience with computational LQCD
- Minimum of 2 years experience in C/C++ programming
- Due to limiting export controls over this project, residency and/or citizenship restrictions may apply
Preferred Skills/Knowledge:
- Experience with MPI, OpenMP, and thread programming
- Capable of working independently in a dynamic environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
This is a post-doctoral research associate position at NCSA and is a renewable 12-month, 100%-time appointment with regular University benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and the start date will be as soon as possible after the close of the search (finalized upon the offer acceptance).
