2005 Reconfigurable Systems Summer Institute

Reconfigurable systems have the potential to dramatically speed computing and spur scientific discovery. Someday it might be possible to build, on the fly, the machine that best fits the problem at hand. Instead of working with fixed "blocks" of computing power, scientists will have flexible "clay" that can be molded to perfectly fit their codes.

The Reconfigurable Systems Summer Institute, to be held July 11-13 on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, represents a step toward that goal.

The Institute will provide the opportunity for representatives from industry and researchers from academia to come together to share information and ideas.

RSSI is co-sponsored by the National Center for Supercomputing Applications and the Ohio Supercomputer Center. OSC is the founding institution behind OpenFPGA, which was launched in early 2005 to bring together developers and hardware manufacturers, and academic, government and commercial organization to advance the use of FPGA technology in high-level applications; NCSA is a member of the OpenFPGA steering committee.

RSSI follows two previous technical symposia on reconfigurable computing: The first held at OSC Oct. 4-5, 2004, and the second held Feb. 21-22 at the University of Manchester, England.
