NCSA has been selected as a mentor organization for Google Summer of Code 2009 and is looking for students to participate. Summer of Code offers student developers stipends of up to $4,500 to write code for various open-source projects. Students apply through Google, and applications are due April 3, 2009.
Students from around the world worked with NCSA during last year's Summer of Code on security, data management, image processing, and bioinformatics projects. Similar projects are available this year, as well as new projects in virtual world collaboration, social networking, and managing information on blogs.
A list of Summer of Code opportunities at NCSA can be found at https://wiki.ncsa.uiuc.edu/display/GSOC/Home. Questions about these projects can be sent to: gsoc@ncsa.uiuc.edu.
