A FREE mentoring workshop for undergraduate and graduate students on Careers in High Performance Systems (CHiPS) will be held July 25-27, 2009, at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) in conjunction with the Symposium on Application Accelerators in High-Performance Computing (SAAHPC).
The CHiPS workshop, which is sponsored by the Committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research and the Coalition to Diversify Computing, aims to encourage undergraduate and master's students, particularly women and those from under-represented groups, to pursue a PhD in computer science or computer engineering.
The workshop will focus on accelerating computationally demanding applications using advanced processor architectures and software systems and will include a combination of technical and mentoring sessions led by internationally known researchers. Technical sessions will include hot topics and future directions in several areas of high-performance computing and their significance to solving real world problems. Mentoring sessions will focus on motivating and preparing students for graduate school. All sessions will include a question and answer period.
Specific topics to be covered include:
- novel processors, systems, and architectures
- programming models, languages, and compilers
- run-time environments, profiling and debugging tools
- scientific and engineering applications
- why go to graduate school?
- interesting things you can do after receiving a Ph.D.
There is no fee to participate, and travel expenses will be reimbursed.
All undergraduate and graduate students can apply by May 11; priority will be given to women and underrepresented minority applicants. Apply online at http://www.cis.udel.edu/chips-mentoring-workshop/.
