WEST CHICAGO, IL — Moving an idea from concept to commercialization is a daunting task, even for seasoned entrepreneurs and inventors. Finding and funding new applications for research can be even more challenging.

TRECC, the Technology Research, Education and Commercialization Center, was established to help bridge that gap, providing both the high-technology tools for research and collaboration and the assistance and training necessary to take ideas to market. TRECC is a program of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, funded by the Office of Naval Research and administered by the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA).

From its facilities at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and at the DuPage Airport Flight Center (2700 International Drive, Suite 305) in West Chicago, TRECC serves as a gateway to world-class government and university research centers across the country and to scientists, technologists, educators, and business leaders around the globe.

For entrepreneurs, managers, educators, and students, TRECC offers essential tools for communicating, computing, and collaborating. Inventors and developers using the TRECC infrastructure have gigabit access to international research networks via multiple dedicated fiber-optic connections using high-performance computing resources.

For entrepreneurs, established businesses, and associations, TRECC is at the hub of a global network of information and technological resources. TRECC assists with every stage of technology transfer, from deployment of basic research through process and product development, to building commercial enterprises. TRECC is also committed to promoting small-to-medium enterprise (SME) developed technologies to meet Department of Defense (DoD) needs, transferring DoD and government-developed technologies to the private sector, and transferring university-developed technologies to the commercial sector.

To meet the technology needs of its federal sponsoring agencies, TRECC accesses SBIR/STTR, competitive research grants, Broad Agency Announcements, requests for proposals, and other contractual mechanisms and government/industry/academic partnership methods to provide a substantial infusion of federal resources to entrepreneurs and small businesses. This includes both on-campus and off-campus entrepreneurs and small businesses developing leading-edge technologies that may be of great benefit to the federal agencies.

TRECC's database of federal opportunities includes available programs from the more than $80 billion of federal R&D funds, 40 percent of which is awarded to medium and small businesses. TRECC's staff also assists SMEs in pursuing funding opportunities and in the awards process, and partners with like-minded businesses and complementary activities in the public, private and academic domains.

If you have an emerging technology concept and would like more information, contact TRECC at 877-578-4200 (toll-free) or via email, info@trecc.org.
