NCSA will be hosting a December workshop on migrating CM-5 applications to the SGI and HP/Convex platforms available at NCSA. The workshop will be held on the campus of the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. (See the letter from NCSA Director Larry Smarr for background information on this change.)
Presented by NCSA user consultants, staff research programmers, and vendor support staff from SGI, HP/Convex, and the Portland Group who specialize in high-performance computing, the workshop will consist of a mixture of lecture and computer lab with a heavy bias toward computer lab time.
The lectures cover practical material applicable to migrating codes from the CM-5 to the SGI POWER CHALLENGEarray and Origin2000 and the HP/Convex Exemplar SPP-1200 and S/X Class (SPP-2000) architectures. Attendees are expected to bring the application(s) they intend to migrate. They are also expected to be proficient in code development. This workshop will not be presenting much introductory material.
A brief survey was sent on 11/26/96 to researchers currently allocated time on the NCSA CM-5 to narrow down specific information to be presented. (If you think you should have received a survey and didn't, please send email to future@ncsa.uiuc.edu). The overall thrust of the workshop will be to assist in migrating CM Fortran codes to either Fortran 90 or HPF and message passing codes to MPI on the other machines. The survey will allow us to tailor content to the needs of the attendees.
