PACS Meeting

John Towns, NCSA senior associate director, Charlie Bender, Ohio Supercomputer Center director, and Frank Gilfeather, executive director of AHPCC's High Performance Computing Education and Research Center, (left to right) occupied the head of the table at the quarterly PACS meeting. The April meeting marked changing roles for Bender and Gilfeather: Bender assumed leadership of the PACS training initiative and Gilfeather became the PACS team leader. Towns continues to serve as the NCSA PACS coordinator.
Taking a short break from presentations are some PACS representatives and visitors from the Globus project and Argonne National Laboratory. The meeting took place in historic Hodgin Hall on the campus of the University of New Mexico.
Other PACS members converse before additional presentation updates. Planning for the summer and early fall Chautauquas was reviewed.
Standing room only! Many PACS members were able to attend the unveiling of AHPCC's new AltaCluster. The opening drew a big crowd to the center.
AHPCC's Frank Gilfeather, the new lead for PACS, offered his view of the events to the crowd that included many industry, government, academic, and computing luminaries.
Not too many flashing lights are evident in this photo of the new AltaCluster. But the mild facade hides considerable compute power.
