I joined NCSA in June 2007. Previously, I was an Assistant Research Scientist, then directly promoted to Research Scientist (the highest rank of research staff) at The University of Iowa where I founded and led the development of the GROW Collaboration and HawkGrid Project that represent the first cyberinfrastructure initiative within the State of Iowa higher education institutions. I received the 2006 Improving Our Workplace Award (IOWA) at The University of Iowa. During the fall of 2006, I was a visiting scholar at Lund University sponsored by the NSF Office of International Science and Engineering to collaborate with the NorduGrid. I led the Open Science Grid (OSG) software development for the interoperability between the Large Hadron Collider Computing Grid (LCG) and OSG. My current projects at NCSA span cyberenvironment, high performance computing, and geospatial data handling, analysis and visualization while focusing on the integrative aspect of cyberinfrastructure.
I am the Founding Director of the Cyberinfrastructure and Geospatial Information Laboratory (CICI) that is established as a multi-institution virtual organization to advance spatial cyberinfrastructure and geospatial problem solving.
I joined UIUC Department of Geography as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in August 2007.
