Staging MSS Files

Since MSS is an enormous filesystem, not all files can reside on disk. Most files are stored on tape. Staging is simply the process of moving a file from tape to disk.

How can I stage files in MSS?

Use the stage command. From an NCSA HPC system, the syntax is as follows:
    msscmd stage waittime filename(s)

where waittime is the desired waiting time (locked by the transaction) in seconds. You are given control of the prompt when waittime has expired. If you do not want to be locked by the transaction, enter a zero value. Files will be staged to disk regardless of the value of waittime.

The stage command also allows you to specify multiple filenames or recursiveness as well as wildcards. (not available in kerberized FTP).

I requested that my MSS file be staged to disk many hours ago. The file is still in archive. What can I do?

Please contact the NCSA Helpdesk by email at help@ncsa.uiuc.edu, or by phone at (217) 244-0710. Include the list of files and their location.
