Aug 11, 2005 We've created a benchmark queue for those users needing
dedicated resources for a short period of time. Please see
              /usr/news/Benchmark_Queue for more information.

Aug 25, 2005 We will be phasing in a new scratch filesystem on September 6,
2005. We will have an outage at 8am to actually migrate the
filesystems. All running jobs will be allowed to run to
completion. Any queued jobs will be removed from the queues
in order to alleviate any dependency on the old scratch
              filesystem.

The current scratch filesystem will be renamed to /scratch-old
and the new scratch filesystem will be named /scratch. You'll
be able to copy files from the old scratch filesystem to the new
scratch filesystem until October 4, 2005. On October 4, 2005,
we will decommission the older scratch filesystem.

The new scratch filesystem has been tuned for better performance.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sep 6, 2005 The new scratch filesystem is now in place. Your old scratch
directory is available at /scratch-old/users/$USER . See
/usr/news/Scratch_Upgrade for information on how to copy files
from the old scratch filesystem to the new.

Sep 15, 2005 Cobalt's compute nodes will be down from 8am until 12pm on
Tuesday, Sept 20 for preventitive maintenance. Cobalt's
login node will be down momentarily on Tuesday for hardware
              replacement.

Sep 20, 2005 *** UPDATED **** Cobalt's compute nodes will be down until
5pm CDT while we continue to investigate hardware issues
              discovered during our preventative maintenance.

5:00 PM: the system is back in production.

Sep 22, 2005 Co-compute1 crashed around 1300. It's out of service until we
get SGI to see what went wrong.

Hmmm, co-login1 was down from 1440 to 1720. Obviously, it's
              back up now.

co-compute1 was put back in service at 19:00
