Memory Placement
3/31/99
Starting April 5, 1999, the default data placement for parallel shared memory
programs will change from first-touch to round-robin. Other programming models
are not affected. In general, this should be of benefit to users. Users who
have programmed their codes to optimally make use of first-touch data placement
can continue using first-touch with the _DSM_PLACEMENT environment variable. In
the C-shell, the command is
setenv _DSM_PLACEMENT FIRST_TOUCH
See http://www.ncsa.uiuc.edu/SCD/Consulting/Tips/Memory_Placement.html for
details.
