Supercomputer with Symera

Use and Performance of Symera Workstation Clusters

The Symera package is used for clustering workstations together and harnessing their spare CPU cycles. Idle cycles of office workstations can be employed to solve big problems.

The Symera Supercomputing System (S3) is a software package that takes a cluster of NT/95 workstations and makes their free CPU cycles available to other programs. This environment is ideal for parallel programming, but any type/style of program can be run over the cluster. The programs are written using the Microsoft ActiveX technology; however no knowledge of ActiveX is required by the programmer if he/she uses the AppWizards supplied with the software package Contact: Tom Magliery at 333-3198 or Tom Magliery@uiuc.edu

Symera projects at NCSA

NCSA and University of Illinois faculty and research groups have a number of efforts underway deploying Symera on various computing systems.
