Optimization of Agent-Based Models to Improve Infectious Disease Management

The goal of this project is to economically optimize disease control programs in dairy herds with multiple endemic diseases. Smith will build on an existing agent-based modeling framework for economic management of dairy cattle, adding layers for multiple diseases that are common in dairy herds and that affect production. This project involves a complex, interconnected, and nonlinear stochastic model that requires advanced programming skill. Additionally, it is essential for the optimization algorithms that the base model be computationally efficient and parallelizable.
