Using Accelerator Hardware to Improve Subresolution Modeling in Astrophysical Simulations

Paul Ricker

College: Liberal Arts and Sciences
Award year: 2015-2016

Ricker plans to develop a prototype framework for integrating subresolution hydrodynamics simulations on accelerator hardware into parallel hydrodynamics codes. The target astrophysics problems (accretion onto supermassive black holes) is a petascale and beyond computational problem. This project involves collaboration with NCSA's Innovative Systems Laboratory using both GPUs and Xeon Phi accelerators.
