Visualizing Hurricane-Ocean Interactions using CESM

Ryan Sriver

College: Liberal Arts and Sciences
Award year: 2016-2017

Sriver seeks to develop a better understanding about the interactions between tropical cyclones and climate, using a multi-scale modeling approach featuring the use of the Community Earth System Model (CESM). Utilizing allocated time on Blue Waters, model simulations will be performed and new and innovative techniques for visualizing model output will be developed with the help of the AVL at NCSA. The research will advance our mechanistic understanding about fundamental physical processes related to tropical cyclone dynamics, ocean mixing, ocean heat storage and transport, and global ocean-atmosphere circulations, as well as new and efficient ways to process and visualize model output.
