Liquid Fuel Duct Visualization

NCSA visualization worked with Farzad Mashayek from the University of Illinois at Chicago in the field of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering to visualize direct and large-eddy simulations of liquid-fuel injected into an aluminum chamber. This work involved the investigation of novel ideas for increasing heat release per unit volume while maintaining a stable flame in liquid-fuel dump combustors. Visualization work integrated volume visualization of multiple variables with surface representations of injected droplets using a custom visualization renderer developed at NCSA. Previously, researchers were unable to visualize the relationship between multiple variables within volumetric regions and the relative positions of liquid droplet positions within these fields using off-the-shelf software.
