Binary Neutron Stars

Visualization of head on collision and coalescence of two neutron stars from simulations by Wai-Mo Suen and his team at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. An adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) scheme was used for the computational domain and output data format. In addition to the AMR format, the research team presented an additional challenge to graphically represent both the surface-based AMR grid geometry and the volume-based density accurately within a single rendered scene. Custom visualization software successfully rendered the combined representation and provided the team with the ability to evaluate and analyze the relationships between the AMR grid evolution and the computational data.
