Swirling Strength

Visualization of large-scale three-dimensional swirling strength indicating speed of local fluid rotation. Regions of flow with a large value of swirling strength are seen as vortices. Custom volume rendering was used to help the team to better understand the dynamics of the vortex interaction in gravity currents. This work is featured in the team's recent publication, "Turbulent structures in planar gravity currents and their influence on the flow dynamics" for publication in Journal of Geophysical Research – Oceans.
