MyProxy celebrates 10th anniversary

The MyProxy project is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this April. The first version of the MyProxy credential management software was created at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) in April 2000. Over the past 10 years, the project has released more than 50 versions of the MyProxy software containing contributions from developers around the world.

MyProxy has seen wide use by the grid community in projects such as the NASA Information Power Grid, European DataGrid, Enabling Grids for E-sciencE, Worldwide LHC Computing Grid, Earth System Grid, FusionGrid, NEESgrid, Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory, U.S. National Virtual Observatory, Open Science Grid, and TeraGrid. In 2009, the TeraGrid MyProxy server handled more than 2.7 million requests on behalf of more than 3,100 unique TeraGrid users.

The MyProxy software is distributed under an open-source initiative approved license from the MyProxy website and through the Globus Toolkit, the Virtual Data Toolkit, the Fedora Project, and SourceForge. The MyProxy project at NCSA has been supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Current support is provided by NSF through the CILogon project.
