The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and SMU (Southern Methodist University) in Dallas are forming a new strategic partnership to promote advanced computing and data science.

NCSA and SMU are two organizations that leverage the power of supercomputing and its resources to further enable digital transformation, research, and discovery to address societal and global challenges. This partnership will focus on collaboration and achieving mutual goals of strategic importance. Together, they will work toward contributing to the development of a highly skilled technology workforce, implement outreach efforts to the broader scientific community, and provide support for future research endeavors.

We are both proud and excited for formalizing this partnership with SMU. Our collective richness in data science and advanced computing resources will enable us to address great opportunities. Our mutual desire to engage industry challenges in alignment with university goals in research and scholarship makes us natural partners. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish together.

Brendan McGinty, NCSA Industry Director

The North Texas area surrounding SMU is home to dozens of Fortune 1000 companies, and developing new research opportunities with local businesses is a priority for SMU. The partnership with NCSA provides our students and faculty with additional capabilities to serve the region and solve larger research problems. We are looking forward to new collaborations, particularly through SMU’s Data Science Institute and the Center for Research Computing.
