NCSA’s Blue Waters Symposium kicks off Monday

Over 150 registered attendees are making their way to Sunriver, Oregon, for the fourth annual NCSA Blue Waters Symposium that kicks off on Monday, June 13. The symposium brings together users of the Blue Waters supercomputer as well as leaders in petascale computational science and engineering to share successes and methods on topics ranging from celestial exploration to river bottom silt.

James Kurose, assistant director for the Computer and Information Science and Engineering directorate at the National Science Foundation (NSF), kicks off the symposium with a keynote address. Cray President and CEO Peter Ungaro will present the keynote address on Tuesday morning. The importance of Blue Waters as a computational resource for researchers will be highlighted throughout the three‐day meeting, which features 77 presentations, a poster session, and tutorials.

The symposium is hosted by the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), which owns and operates the Blue Waters supercomputer on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana‐Champaign.
