August 10-11: Terkhiin Tsaagan Nuur (Great White Lake)

After camping near a Stone Age burial site, we continued to Terkhiin Tsaagan Nuur.

Close to the lake, we stopped at a gorge, where we gathered berries, and climbed to the rim of a large volcano crater that reached 10K feet.

At the lake, we stayed overnight for the first time in a ger, where we played ball with the children, Dana and Ursie dunked themselves in the pristine but icy water, and Dana, Ursie, and Mike rode horses in the twilight.

We were served traditional mutton meals for dinner and breakfast. Frank slept on the bed underneath which the fresh meat was stored. We discovered how cozy and warm it is in a ger.

The next day we continued north. The rocky hilltops on this route were otherworldly and beautiful, and we saw another rainbow.
