This competitive Fellowship program for faculty and researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign provides seed funding for new projects that include NCSA staff as integral contributors to the project. Proposers can leverage existing collaborations with NCSA staff or develop new collaborations through the fellowship program. In either case, the proposed research needs to be new. Those interested should attend the following two upcoming events for more information. Faculty Fellows Kick-Off Meeting: Friday, January 25 at 1 p.m. NCSA will host a Kick-Off Meeting on Friday, January 25, 2019 from 1-2 p.m. in NCSA 1040 for any Illinois faculty interested in becoming an NCSA Faculty Fellow. The meeting will provide an overview of the fellowship program as well as details regarding the application process. Idea Acceleration Workshop: Friday, February 1 at 10 a.m. The following Friday, February 1, NCSA will host a second event, the Idea Acceleration Workshop from 10 a.m. – noon in the NCSA lobby. This follow-on event to the Kick-Off meeting will help potential fellowship applicants find NCSA staff and other researchers with whom to collaborate and build successful proposals. Potential applicants are invited to submit a single slide to Amanda Lombardo. These slides will be used at the event, made available on the NCSA Fellows wiki, and distributed to NCSA staff until the submission deadline. Slides should contain the appropriate contact details (e.g. email address), ideally a photo, and depending on how much information you are comfortable sharing, your project idea, and/or what skills/interests/resources you are interested in finding from NCSA. An example slide may be found on the NCSA Fellows wiki. A link to submit proposals will be posted following the Idea Acceleration Workshop. Fellowship proposals can then be submitted by individuals or collaborative teams beginning February 1, 2019. Proposals for 2019-2020 fellowships are due February 22, 2019. Decisions on funding are anticipated in April 2019. Projects are encouraged that build on existing NCSA activities, major projects and programs, including: Blue Waters (Contact: Greg Bauer) XSEDE (Contact: Jay Alameda) Innovative Systems Laboratory (Contact: Volodymyr Kindratenko) Advanced Visualization Laboratory (Contact: Donna Cox) Cybersecurity (Contact: Alex Withers) Midwest Big Data Hub (Contact: Melissa Cragin) Innovative Software and Data Analysis (Contact: Kenton McHenry) NCSA Industry Program (Contact: Seid Koric) Visual Intelligence for Biology (Contact: Colleen Bushell) Data Analysis and Visualization (Contact: Rob Sisneros) Questions may be sent to NCSA Assistant Director for Research, Amanda Lombardo, at alombar@illinois.edu.
