Cyprus Institute, Illinois offer fellowships for graduate and post-doc research August 15, 2012 Share this page: Twitter Facebook LinkedIn Email Qualified candidates are invited to apply for postdoctoral and graduate research fellowships at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Fellows will draw upon the expertise and facilities of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) to apply high-performance and/or data-intensive computational science and technology to research related to the activities of the Cyprus Institute (CyI) in areas including climate and environmental modeling, fluid dynamics and heat transfer, high-energy and plasma physics, digital cultural heritage/archeology, materials science, 3D visualization, high-energy physics, and solar energy concentration and storage. Fellows will have access to NCSA’s advanced computing, data, and visualization resources at Illinois and at the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC) in Cyprus and will collaborate closely with NCSA staff mentors. The graduate research fellowships will be provided through Graduate Research Assistantships (GRAs) and will include full tuition waivers. The graduate and post-doc fellowships are supported through the CyI/Illinois Collaboration and Research Agreement. Illinois and the Cyprus Institute have been collaborating for several years on activities in high-performance computing, digital cultural heritage, and other areas. RequirementsCandidates for Postdoctoral Research Fellowships must: have a PhD in an appropriate field be capable of leading independent research be interested in collaborating with senior faculty at the Cyprus Institute and at the University of Illinois be willing to spend a portion of the fellowship in residence at the Cyprus Institute Candidates for Graduate (PhD or MSc) Fellowships must: have a strong academic record and background relevant to the proposed graduate studies be ready to embark on thesis research following course completions in departments at Illinois expect to be jointly supervised by collaborating faculty members at the CyI and Illinois be willing to spend a portion of the fellowship in residence at the CyI have a sincere interest in and knowledge of Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean region be willing to live and work in Cyprus or the Eastern Mediterranean region after completing their degrees at the University of Illinois How to applyCandidates should submit: Research plan (3 pages max) Research Background Proposed Research and how it connects to the activities of the Cyprus Institute Curriculum Vitae Letters of Recommendation (3 max) Application materials must be submitted to Jay Roloff (jayr@illinois.edu) by Sept. 28, 2012 and will be reviewed by both staff at NCSA as well as staff at the Cyprus Institute.
