NCSA’s Donna Cox and Blue Waters user Don Wuebbles featured in Severe Weather Seminar March 19, 2014 Share this page: Twitter Facebook LinkedIn Email Two speakers from the University of Illinois will be featured in the 34th Annual Tornado and Severe Weather Seminar, hosted by WGN-TV’s chief meteorologist Tom Skilling on April 5 at the Ramsey Auditorium on the grounds of the Fermilab National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia. Donna Cox, leader of NCSA’s Advanced Visualization Laboratory, will speak on “Visualizing nature’s most extreme storms on one of the world’s fastest supercomputers.” She will share examples of her team’s data-driven visualizations of phenomena such as a hurricane churning across the Gulf of Mexico and the formation of a tornado. Don Wuebbles, The Harry E. Preble Professor of Atmospheric Sciences at Illinois and a user of NCSA’s Blue Waters supercomputer, will give a talk called “Climate Change is Happening and It’s Affecting Severe Weather.” The seminar starts at noon and will repeat in its entirety at 6pm. Attendees are advised to arrive early, as admission is free and the seminars fill up quickly. WGN-TV will stream the entire seminar starting at noon CT on WGNtv.com.
