‘The Tree of Life’ to screen in Champaign

You’ve probably heard about “The Tree of Life,” which recently won the Palm d’Or at the Cannes film festival and stars Brad Pitt. But you might not have heard that the movie features two scientific visualizations by NCSA’s Advanced Visualization Lab.

“The Tree of Life” will begin its run at Champaign’s Art Theater on June 24. Two screenings of the film will feature the NCSA team that contributed to the movie. Those screenings will include an introduction and brief Q&A from Donna Cox and her team. They’ll talk about how they got involved, the work that they did, and how they turn scientific simulations from a supercomputer into the sort of art that ends up in a movie.

The first screening will be Saturday, June 25 at 7:30pm. The second will be Friday, July 1 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $9 for adults or $7.50 with a student ID. You can buy your tickets in advance at Art Theater’s box office, 126 W. Church St., Champaign. They are not available online.
