The Hardware-Accelerated Learning (HAL) cluster was designed to speed up deep learning research. It integrates the most recent advances in computing, storage and interconnectivity technologies to create a purpose-built shared-use system.
The focus on data-intensive projects within the HAL cluster allows for research in fields such as natural language processing, computer vision, healthcare and more. This instrument is intended to be transformative in both the system architecture and domain science fields.
Hosted by NCSA, this project is also deeply committed to inter-organizational collaboration. The development of this instrument was enabled with the help of IBM and Nvidia, and is meant to be an expanding force for research in the deep learning research communities. What’s more, the project’s commitment to inclusivity will hopefully garner support from under-represented minority groups as well as female students.
