NCSA’s Imagination Station coming to SC18

Can you imagine a world-changing challenge you would solve with access to advanced technology, data, and domain expertise? Maybe it’s solving the global food crisis or understanding the impact of neighborhood gun violence African-American mothers in Englewood. The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites SC18 attendees to join us in booth #3635 as we explore how researchers are leveraging NCSA resources to solve grand challenges like these. SC18, the supercomputing industry’s largest conference, will take place November 11-16, 2018 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas.

“Every day for the past three decades, NCSA has partnered with visionaries to discover solutions to grand challenges for the benefit of science and society,” said NCSA director Bill Gropp. “Our advanced digital resources and world-class staff push research beyond the unimaginable. We’re inviting SC18 attendees to join us in imagining what challenges they could tackle with NCSA’s resources and expertise.”

Attendees are invited to explore the world-changing discoveries of researchers from academia, government, and industry at NCSA’s Imagination Station and at the 33 talks and workshops featuring NCSA experts. NCSA will also be hosting a number of in-booth events including a happy hour to celebrate the 5-year anniversary of the Blue Waters project and a coffee hour to explore the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) project. Attendees can RSVP for NCSA’s in-booth events.

These student teams design and build small clusters with hardware and software vendor partners, learn designated scientific applications, apply optimization techniques for their chosen architectures, and compete in a non-stop, 48-hour challenge at the SC conference to complete a real-world scientific workload, while impressing conference attendees and interview judges with their HPC knowledge.

Discover More with XSEDE at SC18

The Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE), one of NCSA’s major projects, will also have a booth at SC18 where conference attendees are encouraged to stop by and learn about XSEDE-enabled science and opportunities for researchers to Discover More with XSEDE. Join XSEDE in booth #3935 at the events listed below:
