NCSA@SC18 Highlights

11.19.18 -

It was a busy week for us all, so in case you missed us, here's a recap of what NCSA was up to during SC18.

Student Cluster Competition:

We're so proud of our team from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign who took home 3rd place in the 16-team Student Cluster Competition, 1st out of the U.S. teams. Read more about their success here. Congrats, Student Cluster team!

NCSA in the spotlight:

NCSA is honored to have received the Best Use of Artificial Intelligence and Best Use of HPC in Automotive in the annual HPCwire Editors’ Choice Awards. Check out how our Gravity Group is using AI to detect gravitational waves here and how our Industry team is collaborating with partners like Rolls-Royce, LSTC and Cray to vastly improve implicit finite element analysis here.

NCSA Director Bill Gropp was featured on SC18 Live! You can watch his interview here to learn more about what he imagines for the future of HPC.

At our booth:

NCSA hosted several events in our booth which created a great environment for networking and collaboration. We brought people together over a live t-shirt printing event, a happy hour to celebrate the five years of success enabled by Blue Waters, a data streaming demo from the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST), and family night featuring our kid-friendly giveaways like legos and our coloring book.

Women in HPC:

NCSA, a long-time affiliate of Women in HPC (WHPC), was thrilled to support WHPC's Networking Event at Cafe Herrera and that some of our staff were able to be a part of the WHPC program at SC18.

See you next year!

NCSA is bringing the unimaginable to life, but we want you to be part of it. Let’s work together to pursue world-changing discoveries and help the U.S. lead the world in computing and data solutions. Can’t wait to see you all back next year!
